Juanfran: Important step for Spain

Juanfran Torres believes that a major step forward can be taken in World Cup qualifying this fortnight against Belarus and France.

Spain face both in UEFA Group I qualifying and the Atletico Madrid converted full-back is fully aware of what six points could mean.

“I believe that a part of our qualification will be played for in these games, they are two tough opponents,” the 27-year-old enthused today.

“If we win both then we will have reached the first aim of qualifying. I think today that everyone wants to win against the Spanish and we have to deal with that.

“It is an honour for us to be here, in the best team in the world, we have a tremendous ambition to continue winning titles, to bring joy to the Spanish.

“We intend to prepare well for the qualifiers, go ahead into the Confederations Cup and continue to fight for titles.”

Andres Iniesta missed three weeks of action at club level after picking up a thigh injury during the last round of international matches, but Juanfran dismissed fears over fitness.

“Andres is crucial for Barcelona and la Seleccion, I have great appreciation for him since youth level, it is a luxury to train alongside him and he is one of the best in his position, no doubt, Spain are lucky to have him.”
