Barcelona defender Martin Montoya has rejected claims by Real Madrid’s Pepe after Sunday’s El Clasico that his team is theatrical.
Montoya could have scored the winning goal but saw his late effort come back off the crossbar and he felt Pepe’s accusations were unjustified.
“We are not theatre people. I think that everyone can see that, although if we were like that it is because they kick us,” he told a Press conference.
“To score would have been the best-ever [feeling] but I’m very happy to have played at the Camp Nou. To play in a game such as this before these fans is something spectacular.
“Personally, I tried to do what I know and stuck to my own game. I felt very comfortable on the pitch despite it being a Clasico.”
The 21-year-old feels La Liga is not over yet with regards to Barca’s eight-point advantage over their eternal rivals.
“La Liga is not over because there are many games left and many points to play for and we’ll drop some along the way, but it was a good point with respect to the difference between us and Madrid.”
He also found time to comment on the debate over who should be the substitutes for the injured Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique in the centre of La Blaugrana’s defence.
“Anyone who plays in the middle can do so very well. We have [Javier] Mascherano, [Alex] Song, [Marc] Bartra…when the key pieces are missing there are always people that can come in and do as well if not better.”
