Muniain out of Spain contention

Iker Muniain reportedly cannot return to any level of international football until he apologises for his behaviour at the Olympics.

The Athletic Bilbao player was seen as one of the more senior members of Luis Milla’s squad at London 2012, who were eliminated at the group stage.

However, in confronting the referee during and at the end of Spain’s 1-0 defeat to Honduras, Muniain has reportedly been removed from consideration to represent Spain at senior or Under-21 level indefinitely.

This, according to El Confidencial, is Spanish Football Federation President Angel Maria Villar’s decision, having attended the game in question and been disappointed with the player.

Muniain will reportedly not be considered for national duty until he calls and directly apologises to Villar for his actions.
