Simeone still game by game

Diego Simeone has reiterated that Atletico Madrid are only thinking of each game one at a time as he faces questions of the weekend’s test.

Atleti welcome Malaga in the League in Week 7 in a meeting between two of the League’s unbeaten sides. If Real Madrid win at Barcelona, then three points for Simeone’s side will see them top the table.

However, El Cholo told reporters today at his Press conference today that focus is only on Thursday’s match at home to Viktoria Plzen.

“We are thinking about tomorrow’s game. Sunday’s game is far away,” answered the Coach.

“We have a Europa League match against a direct rival, who have a vertical game with a central midfield with great players.

“We are focused on what we must do, in the Europa League. Respecting each opponent is the way things have been done for years.

“It is logical that we are among the top teams [tipped to win the Europa League]. I think also that it is normal for the fans to dream. We only think about the next game.

“At major teams you always look to progress. We are on this particular path [to try and do so] and in this regard we will continue to exist.”

Simeone also took questions on some of the players in contention for an appearance on Thursday, including summer signing Emre, who has so far barely featured.

“Has Emre disappointed? On the contrary, I feel responsible for not giving him the minutes that he deserves. The team is very strong in midfield.

“I am sure that with the passage of time, he will get the games that he deserves. The needs a certain capacity and Emre is in that.

“Will Diego Costa or Adrian start? I do not put players ahead or behind. I look for the best performance for each case and use what seems best suited.

“Adrian is getting better, Raul is very good, Falcao is Falcao. I live and feel that way. The games don’t matter as much as the quality of the minutes each can offer. We all need to play. We have a team that allows us to be competitive in every game that we play.”
