Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone believes the team spirit shown by his players was the key to the 1-0 away win at Espanyol.
“We must continue the way we have been doing with the competitiveness and spirit shown in every game and competition we’ve played in,” he told a post-match Press conference.
The Argentine also declared himself satisified with the defeat of a team for whom ‘it was imperative to win’ and that his players worked well off the ball.
“We cancelled out their attacking game and nullified [Joan] Verdu, Simao and Hector Moreno so their creativity was lowered.
“That meant [Samuele] Longo took less part in the game and in the first half we came out very well.”
Simeone did admit, however, that the game changed after the break due to the home side adopting a different system.
“They had more attacking players but we remained strong in defence. We are doing well consistently and hope to add to this good run of results,” he added.
