Mel: No Betis disadvantage

Real Betis Coach Pepe Mel says his side have 'the same chance of winning as Malaga' tomorrow, despite their midweek exertions.

Betis were beaten 4-2 at home to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night. Not only will they have to deal with fatigue at La Rosaleda tomorrow, they will be without Damien Perquis and Joel Campbell, both sent off versus Atleti.

“You have to recharge the batteries of a team that is going to be more tired than the opponent,” Mel commented at a pre-match press conference.

“This year we are betting on speed, those that are playing now are players with explosiveness. Malaga as a team are very recognisable, they have been together for two years. They have made significant progress and have two good players in the centre.

“But we have the same chance of winning as them.

“At worst it was weird, we had a hard time,” was the tactician's description of his side's 2-0 loss in the same fixture last season.

Mel described Malaga winger Joaquin Sanchez, a former Betis player, as 'a son of this house.'

Betis go into the game 6th, two points behind their 4th placed hosts.
