‘Everyone looking at the table’

Juanfran Torres and Koke have reflected on Atletico Madrid’s start to the season, with both players excited but coy on what it could mean.

Victory last night away to Real Betis has seen the side take second spot in the table outright, prompting discussion today of how far Diego Simeone’s side can go.

“In the last day of the season is where you will see our aspirations,” Juanfran reflected.

“With Real Madrid and Barcelona the case is complicated and you have to get it perfect so as to have the opportunity.

“Everyone at Atletico is looking at the table and are happy to be ahead of Real Madrid. We hope to do well all season and that finally we can be able to beat them too.”

Notably, Radamel Falcao has been performing for the club and has six goals to his name in the scoring charts.

“He is one of the best players in the world and hopefully he can be with us for a long time. They [Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi] are very good, but for us the best is Radamel,” reflected the converted full-back.

Meanwhile, teammate Koke preached a mix of ambition and caution in looking at where Atleti’s start to the season can see them end up domestically and in Europe.

“The Europa League has great teams and teams like Atletico want to compete and match the opposition. We want to do something great.

“But every game is different, against some teams that we do not know and against teams from different Leagues. And in La Liga, against Real Madrid and Barca it is difficult to win.”
