Atleti game special for Simao

Simao Sabrosa is looking forward to facing former club Atletico Madrid and reflects his confidence in current side Espanyol’s capacity to improve.

The 32-year-old spent three seasons with Atleti but is now preparing to play against them with his new Catalan employers this Sunday evening.

“It’s a special game for me. They have won two titles since my departure and are now in good form, excited and confident,” the attacker reflected to reporters today.

“Everyone knows that in facing them you will get a lot of pressure. We know it is going to be a difficult encounter.”

It is made even more difficult by the fact that they could face Radamel Falcao in attack. The striker has scored six times in the opening five rounds.

“I knew of him from when he was with Porto and now he continues to prove that he is a fantastic player in both the League and Europe. But I hope that he does not do as well against us.”

Espanyol go into the game with just the one point to show for their efforts this term, but the Portuguese winger is not downbeat.

“I would be worried if we had lost and we had not played well, but we’re doing really well. We have a good team and we are creating opportunities.

“We maintain a good level of performance, from beginning to end in the 90 minutes.

“We must be calm and be patient. We have an inner strength to react. We must be united, because if we are together then it is much easier.”
