Referee was incapable says Guillen

Real Betis President Miguel Guillen did not hold back regarding the performance of the referee after the 4-2 loss to Atletico Madrid.

Alvaro Izquierdo sent off both Damien Perquis and Joel Campbell for the home side at the Benito Villamarin and Guillen ventured the opinion that he was not fit to officiate in La Primera.

“This man has shown he is incapable of refereeing in the Primera Division,” Guillen told Radio COPE. “With refereeing like this it causes public order problems and the repeated injustice generated leads to a helplessness that can sometimes result in violence.

“We understand he has always been against us. In the first half we did not agree with the sending off of the Betis player and the second one was clearly the Atletico player’s hand.”

Guillen says he is now going to take action to prevent Izquierdo from ever refereeing another game at Betis.

“We are going to prevent this gentleman from ever again refereeing at the Villamarin.

“There were 33,000 people that came here to enjoy themselves and because of his negligence he created an atmosphere that turned into a disgrace.”
