Falcao not up against Messi and CR7

Radamel Falcao says he is not competing against Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo following his two-goal salvo against Real Betis.

The Colombian hitman now has seven La Liga goals and is one ahead of Messi and three in front of Ronaldo in the race for Pichichi, yet he insists he is not in competition with arguably the world’s two greatest footballers.

“I’ve never said I want to compete with Cristiano and Messi. I just want to score goals and help my team, nothing more,” he told a Press conference.

“The only thing I worry about is achieving my own objectives. We are up against 19 teams, not only Real Madrid and Barcelona. I hope to be able to play against Espanyol [on Sunday] but I was in pain and needed to come off.

“We were very good tonight and overcame a good Betis side. We didn’t allow them to play as they wanted to because we worked well, but we had hoped to do well at the start of the season and are taking each game as it comes.

“We are near the top because we have the mentality of not thinking beyond the next match,” he added.
