Pepe Mel was left complaining about the referee after seeing two of his Betis players dismissed in the 4-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid.
Damien Perquis and Joel Campbell were both given their marching orders by Alvarez Izquierdo in what was a highly-charged affair at the Benito Villamarin, with some Betis fans even attempting to invade the pitch.
“I have to be careful what I say but I hope the referee has a television, nothing more,” Mel told the post-match Press conference.
“We watch videos of games because things look different on the pitch to what they do on TV. Some amazing things happened. It was a very good game in the first half and in the second it was all over.
“However, I don’t want to dwell on it as we have to prepare for the next match against Malaga. We have accumulated some tiredness and lost footballers. Nothing has gone right since this game was originally suspended, but we accept it.”
Mel also spoke of the attempt by some supporters to try and get on the pitch.
“It is not right and the referee has the right to be wrong. This is a sport and a spectacle and we don’t’ approve of these things.
“We approve of what most of the fans did, which was to support the team until the end and give the players an ovation when it was over.
“We feel helpless at the moment and the dressing room is down. This has happened too many times and we are frustrated.
“A curious fact is that Betis have not been awarded a penalty for more than a year,” he added.
