Atletico Madrid moved into second place in the table with an entertaining 4-2 win away to Real Betis on Wednesday night.

This fixture was being played in the midweek, having been arranged from its original Week 3 slot, due to Atleti’s involvement in the UEFA Super Cup.

Betis shaded the first half and went in at the break with a 2-1 lead. Radamel Falcao’s sixth League goal of the season was sandwiched between fortunate goals for the home side.

The first of those was from Salvador Agra, who saw an attempted cross by-pass everyone on its way over the line and the second came via Juanfran Torres, who saw a cross deflect off him and into his own net just on the 45-minute mark.

The capital club responded after the break through Falcao again, who in winning a penalty for the visitors also saw Damien Perquis dismissed.

Conversion of that spot-kick three minutes into the second half was followed up just seven minutes later by Diego Costa’s goal to give Diego Simeone’s side the lead for the first time.

Substitute Joel Campbell compounded a miserable night for Pepe Mel’s side when he managed to pick up two yellow cards inside a 19-minute cameo and that was soon followed by Raul Garcia’s strike to finish the scoring at 4-2 to Atleti.
