Valencia making ‘childish mistakes’

Joao Pereira has criticised his Valencia teammates for their sometimes ‘childish mistakes’ made this season, but is convinced they will improve.

The Portuguese full-back’s team currently sit in the lower half of the table having accumulated just five points from their opening five games.

Pereira is in no doubt that the position is deserved, and has reflected that the team’s upcoming run of fixtures hold a greater value than previous.

“These are three games that we are facing as finals, because we have dropped some points that we should not have and we now have to recover them,” he told reporters today.

“The team is a little down for the start to the season, but we are convinced that there is time to fix things and improve.

“The problems with the team are not only defensive. The forwards and the midfield also have some responsibility to defend.

“It is true that in every game we have conceded and we must improve. We are a team where we defend and attack together.”

Los Che’s first chance to improve comes this Saturday afternoon at home to Real Zaragoza.

“We have to play much better, we have push harder, run faster, do everything better than Zaragoza and as players we know we can give more.

“You don’t lose if you don’t concede goals. We conceded childish goals in the second half against Mallorca.

“It should not be happening in professional football. At first everyone was marking and then they were not. I know that we are making mistakes that we should not be making, I know and am convinced that we can improve.”
