Santa Cruz: I’ll celebrate vs. Betis

Malaga striker Roque Santa Cruz has no qualms about celebrating if he scores against former club Real Betis on Sunday.

The Paraguayan international hit seven goals on loan at the Verdiblancos last season and was close to returning on a permanent deal this summer, but instead headed for the Costa del Sol.

“Betis are a super special club,” the former Manchester City man told Marca. “I have good friendships with a lot of people there and retain a great affection for the fans, the people and the club. I'm excited to see them and say hello.

“Sunday is an important game, especially for me, but I really want to score. I've always said I have affection for Betis but now I'm here at La Rosaleda, and people should understand that goals are joys. I'd like to celebrate.

“I left Betis with the best intention to return, it was a story of the clubs. These things happen in football. Also, I liked the chance to play in the Champions League.”

The 31-year-old also discussed the differences between him and the man keeping him out Manuel Pellegrini's team – Javier Saviola.

“We are two different players in terms of height, but we both like to be in contact with the ball. With us, the team has alternatives.

“The team is playing very well, and I feel good about my physical condition.”
