Mou: We were good, can be better

Jose Mourinho is satisfied with Real Madrid’s performance at Rayo Vallecano this evening, even if he admits they could have played better and scored more.

Los Blancos ran out 2-0 winners at Vallecas, thanks to goals from Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“The team was a team, even if we could have played better,” began the Portuguese post match.

“If we had played with the same attitude as at Getafe or Sevilla then we would not have won. This was a difficult match. The team responded well.

“Could we have played better? Sure. But the team was together. Our opponents pushed hard and ran a lot, whilst the pitch was difficult.

“My criticism has always been about their attitude. Today I liked my team.”

The game was originally set to be played on Sunday evening, but had to be put back to Monday after the power to some of the floodlights at the Vallecas was deliberately cut by an unknown party and needed time to be restored.

“It was not easy to maintain the pressure for the match from yesterday, only at 3.30pm was it confirmed that we would be playing.

“Everything was strange with the suspension and the situation was difficult. We had come to play, hoped to stay focused and we had to leave yesterday without knowing when we would be playing.

“But that was the same for Rayo too. We managed to overcome it.

“It was a game with great pressure, but we also pushed and managed to get the ball up-field and we had great chances to score after our second goal, some easy ones and we could have scored more.

“For much of last season we were very successful in front of goal, but right now we are not playing well.

“We can do better. But, it is not the time to be worrying about our accuracy in front of goal. We scored enough goals to win and we always managed to control the game and Rayo had very few chances against us.”
