Sevilla refuse to delay Depor match

Sevilla President Jose Maria del Nido has refused a request to delay Monday night’s game with Deportivo de La Coruna by 15 minutes.

Both the Spanish League (LFP) and Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) wanted to put the kick-off back as Sunday’s postponed Rayo Vallecano-Real Madrid fixture had been rearranged to start at 8pm local time tonight.

It meant the end of that game would run over into the Depor-Sevilla match by a few minutes, something the LFP and RFEF wished to avoid.

However, Sevilla issued a strongly-worded statement in which the club categorically refused to start the game in Riazor at 9.45pm local time.

“If we had agreed to a delay then the Sevilla party would have to spend the night in La Coruna as it would not have sufficient time to get to the airport to catch the plane home.

“The Nervion club, at the hand of its President Jose Maria del Nido, is firm in this and has explained the refusal to delay the game within 24 hours of its onset and the serious problems that could result.”

As a result, Rayo-Real Madrid clash has now been brought forward to 7.45pm local time.
