JIM: Too hot for Levante

Juan Ignacio Martinez has focused little on his Levante side’s win over Real Sociedad today, instead complaining about the heat.

The mid-afternoon kick-off was won by Los Granotes thanks to Obafemi Martins’ late goal, but JIM took the opportunity post-match to complain of the conditions the game was played in.

“I will say this even though we won, but at the break I had decided to replace Papa Diop, but then Iborra collapsed, having fainted, and so he could not be replaced,” he revealed.

“This was a game full of adversity and in the end it was decided by a bit of luck. Fortunately Diop played a great second half, whilst Michel performed well too [despite suffering from the heat].

“It was very complicated, though. We are professional and play when we are told to, but I do think [we should] during the day with this heat and in a city like Valencia, some things should be rethought.

“I saw a bit of Mallorca-Valencia this morning and that game lacked rhythm. I’m not the one to talk about this, but I guess that the Presidents have already denounced it, but we have no choice but to comply in terms of television revenue.”

Meanwhile, the club have confirmed that an 82-year-old spectator attending the match suffered a heart attack at the final whistle and later died at hospital.
