Falcao on secrets of EL success

On-fire forward Radamel Falcao has explained why Atletico Madrid and himself have both been so successful in the Europa League.

The Colombian, who recently bagged a hat trick in Los Colchoneros 4-1 romp over Chelsea in the European Super Cup, spoke to UEFA.com ahead of the resumption of the tournament which has been so kind to him over the last two years.

Falcao has not only won the last two editions, with Porto and Atleti respectively, but top scored on both occasions.

“The ambition and the hunger to win, and the desire to play a leading role in this competition, have been present in all of Atletico Madrid, and resulted in last year's performance,” 'El Tigre' declared.

“I haven't really analysed the situation, but I try to help the team in the best way I can, and what better way than to score goals. I try and adapt myself to the team, and the team tries to adapt to suit my potential, so we've benefited from both these things.”

The 26-year-old believes the bulk of the credit should go to Coach Diego Simeone however.

“He made us stronger as a team, as a group. During the last year we have got to know each other and adapted the ideas of the Coach. Above all he has shown us his passion for the sport.”

Atleti began their defence of the Europa League away to Hapoel Tel Aviv tomorrow night, but Falcao has been left behind in Spain in order to rest.
