Barca to wear Catalan colours

Barcelona will wear the colours of the Catalan flag as their second shirt for the 2013-14 season, according to Sport.

La Blaugrana have agreed to wear the red and yellow of the Senyera, something that has never happened in the club’s 113-year history.

The Senyera is nowadays the flag that represents four of Spain’s autonomous communities – Catalonia, Aragon, Valencia and the Balearic Islands – and is also used on the Spanish coat of arms.

The Barcelona directors and marketing department feel it is an initiative that strengthens the ties between the club and Catalonia and ‘reinforces the sporting and sentimental ties with most of the population’.

Barcelona have already displayed the colours of the Catalan flag on the neck of their shirt at the instigation of former President Joan Laporta.
