Adrian’s Atletico renewal on hold

Adrian Lopez’s contract renewal at Atletico Madrid is on hold as talks between both parties have reached an impasse.

The Spanish international has an offer on the table to extend his current agreement, which runs out in 2015, but so far the club has received no reply to the proposal, reports AS.

The 24-year-old arrived on a free transfer before the start of last season from Deportivo de La Coruna after digging his heels in to join Los Rojiblancos.

However, he now feels he should be rewarded for that effort and also because his value has shot up since he has become one of the mainstays of Diego Simeone’s side, scoring seven La Liga goals and 11 in the Europa League last term.

Adrian’s buyout clause stands at €18m and he is aware the club would realise a healthy profit if he chose to depart the Vicente Calderon, with Barcelona rumoured to have shown interest in him over the summer.
