La Rojita seal play-off place

Spain Under-21s are through to the play-offs for next summer’s European Championship after a goalless draw in Switzerland on Wednesday.

The result in Julen Lopetegui's first match as Coach ended the La Rojita’s perfect record in qualifying group 5, but the reigning continental champions march on in their bid to reach the finals in Israel next June.

Five points clear with one game left to play, Spain can no longer be caught by the Swiss, who were unable to find a way past Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea in Sion.

Rodrigo came closest to scoring for Spain with a left-footed shot that crashed off the bar shortly before the break, while Barcelona's 18-year-old Gerard Deulofeu played for just over an hour before being replaced by Isco, of Malaga.
