New executive Vice President Moayat Shatat has reassured supporters that Malaga will not be abandoned by its owners, despite a difficult summer.
Owner Sheikh Abdullah Al-Thani’s decision in the summer to withhold funding for the club threw Pellegrini's side into brief financial meltdown, with the likes of Santi Cazorla and Salomon Rondon being sold to settle outstanding debts.
However, in announcing a shake-up of the board structure at the club, including seeing himself moved to executive VP, Shatat has today affirmed Al-Thani’s commitment to Malaga.
“The owners were quite unhappy, frankly disappointed, but they are still in the club, wagering for Malaga. We never said that we will leave the club,” Shatat explained at today’s Press conference.
“We have faced debts, but [in selling Cazorla] at the time made the decisions for the club.
“We have invested a lot of money in this project and have no intention of stopping. We want what is best for this club.
“The Sheikh has always been enthusiastic about Malaga and the club is not for sale, whilst we have no money owed to players or staff.”
Shatat confirmed that marketing and communications director Vicente Casado has been promoted to director general and Mario Husillos is as expected the team’s new sporting director.
