Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas insists it is ‘easy to criticise’ in Spain, but he is happy despite the fact he would ‘like to play more’.
In an in-depth interview with Radio Marca, the Spanish international was keen to stress he has been very happy since returning to the Catalan giants from Arsenal last year.
“I feel great, most of all I am physically fine as I went through a successful diet before the European Championships in which I lost four kilos.”
Whispers from Barcelona have been suggesting the 25-year-old has been unhappy of late with several disappointing performances in La Liga. On the contrary, he felt positive and optimistic about the year ahead.
“The negative reviews I have been getting are something all footballers go through.
“Maybe it has become easy to criticise players. I rarely got bad Press in England or with the Spanish international team. Now I have more as circumstances have changed. But I remain calm. I have no bad sides, I am very happy with myself.”
Under new Blaugrana boss Tito Vilanova, Fabregas is seen as having not featured as predominantly as he once did during Pepe Guardiola’s reign.
“We would all like to play more, but it is hard. But I am playing for the best team in the world. I have come here to enjoy it and not let it get to my head.
“The Coach knows what to expect from me, and also is well aware I have the ability to play in three different positions. Have I talked to Tito? This is an issue for the locker room, and he should not be worried about my mood.
“Tito has a lot more personality than people think, and he knows a lot about football. Our workouts have not changed, and we are happy and continue to work very well.”
The former Arsenal captain finished by commenting on La Roja, as he and his Spanish teammates are currently training together during the international break for games agaisnt Saudi Arabia and Georgia.
“Within three months of the Euros we already have very important matches with Spain. We want to be in Brazil for the 2014 World Cup, but there are no guarantees despite the fact we are champions.”
