Villa ‘back with a vengeance’

Jordi Alba declares Barcelona and Spain teammate David Villa as ‘back with a vengeance’ this season, and sticks up for Cesc Fabregas.

Striker Villa missed the second half of last season and the European Championships with Spain this summer after breaking his leg last December.

However, he is back in full training with Barcelona and has been called up to the latest Spain squad for games this week with Saudi Arabia and Georgia.

“He has had many months off the pitch but has returned with a vengeance. He has worked hard to return to the national team and to his club. We are happy for him, he is a very important player for the team. Hopefully he returns to his best as soon as possible.”

Another Barca and Spain player looking to return to form is Fabregas, but Alba does not agree.

“He’s a very important player for Barcelona and for Spain. I do not see him as concerned. These comments that people are saying are unfair, he is a very important player today that is already having a great season.

“It has only been three games. He’s a very important player who I am sure will give us a lot of joy.”

The full-back also had a few words for Andrea Iniesta, after he picked up the UEFA award for Best Player in Europe for 2011-12 this week.

“Andres played a great Euros after many years at a high level. I have the luck to have him at my club. He has given much to the national team, everyone here celebrates his award for him.”
