Cristiano ‘unhappy, the club know why’

Cristiano Ronaldo has offered the Spanish Press food for thought during the international break, with a cryptic explanation to his moody performance today.

The Portuguese attacker scored the first two goals for Real Madrid tonight in their 3-0 home win over Granada, but appeared not to celebrate either strike.

Asked why after the game, the 27-year-old was surprisingly honest.

“I’m sad and people at the club know why, this is why I didn’t celebrate the goals. The issues are professional. I cannot say more.

“Iniesta [winning the Best Player in Europe award this week] is nothing to do with it. I’m not going to talk about the issue,” offered the former Manchester United man, before being asked if his mood was just fleeting. “We’ll see.”

The player was forced off midway through the second half after picking up a knock, but he will still travel to meet up with the Portugal national team this coming week.

“I’m fine, whilst I am going to Portugal to see if I recover in the next couple of days, because I want to play those two games, which are so important for the team.”

Ronaldo’s latter strike tonight was his 150th for Real Madrid in all competitions, coming in his 149th appearance.

“I’m very happy for that but more importantly for the team. We got a victory and we have begun today in the League.”
