Clubs in the Spanish Primera Division spent 70 per cent less in this summer’s transfer market compared to that in the previous year.
In total, as El Confidencial report, La Liga clubs paid €116m for players in the 2012 summer window, compared to the €360m outlay during the 2011 summer window.
Barcelona and Real Madrid’s moves for Jordi Alba, Alex Song and Luka Modric equated to a 55 per cent total share in summer spending in La Liga, with the other 18 clubs totalling a spend of €50m this summer.
Most notable again is the number of clubs to have officially spent nothing on player recruitment this year. Malaga, Osasuna, Espanyol, Rayo Vallecano, Deportivo and Real Valladolid brought in a total of 47 players between them, but without spending a Euro.
In comparison, Spain’s top flight has brought in €153m in sales this summer, amounting to a €37m overall profit for the window.
La Liga’s spending this year is also low when compared to Europe’s other major footballing Leagues.
