Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao says he has avenged Barcelona’s Champions League semi-final defeat to Chelsea last season.

The Colombian hitman scored a first-half hat-trick in Los Rojiblancos’ 4-1 destruction of the Londoners in Friday’s European Super Cup final in Monaco, with Mundo Deportivo alleging he told former Barca player Patrick Kluivert he had taken revenge for him.

“I have avenged your Barca,” the report quotes Falcao as saying to the Dutchman after being overheard in a corridor leading to the Press room at the Stade Louis II.

Kluivert was in charge of presenting the award to the game’s Most Valuable Player, with Falcao unsurprisingly picking up the trophy after his devastating performance against Roberto Di Matteo’s side.

“It is a pleasure to receive this award from your hands,” Falcao told Kluivert on receiving the accolade.
