Levante sign Lassad at 2am!

Levante have announced the signing of Lassad Nouioui on a two-year deal after talks dragged on until 2am local time.

The Tunisian striker has penned a two-year deal at the Ciutat de Valencia following the 26-year-old’s refusal to renew his contract with Deportivo de La Coruna.

Los Granotes boss Juan Ignacio Martinez feared he could be left without a recognised centre-forward after Arouna Kone’s departure to Wigan Athletic, but some intense negotiations culminated in Lassad joining the Valencia-based club.

Martinez had earlier failed in a last-ditch attempt to prise former Newcastle United and Wolfsburg hitman Obafemi Martins from Rubin Kazan and moved quickly to secure the services of Lassad, who was being courted by several other clubs.

Since late afternoon Levante had been looking at strikers whose contracts were due to expire and that the rules permitted to be signed after the deadline – hence, Lassad’s incorporation in the early hours of Saturday morning alongside the club’s insistence on closing the deal the same night.
