Xavi: We went into Supercopa cold

Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez said his team entered the Supercopa second-leg game at Real Madrid cold after losing Dani Alves.

Brazilian international Alves felt some discomfort during the warm-up at the Santiago Bernabeu and was replaced by Jordi Alba, with Xavi insisting it was not ideal preparation for a game against Jose Mourinho’s men.

“We had some bad news right from the beginning with what happened to Dani Alves.

“Jordi Alba also had to start without warming up, but those are not excuses. We went into the match cold and paid for it with two early mistakes,” he told assembled media.

Nonetheless, the Spain World and European champion gave praise to opponents Madrid for their victory.

“We were left with 10 men but managed to get hold of the ball and continue playing with the same personality.

“We did well in replying to the two goals and could even have gone on to win the Supercopa. However, we have to congratulate Madrid and move on.

“We lost this title but the more important ones are still to come,” he added.
