Martinez set for Bayern transfer

Javi Martinez has reportedly deposited the €40m fee required to break his Athletic Bilbao contract, freeing him to complete a move to Bayern Munich.

Reports this morning suggested that the player had already been to Munich to carry out a medical ahead of the anticipated transfer.

Two days before the close of the summer window, it is being reported that the player has this afternoon deposited an amount of €40m with the Spanish Football League’s offices.

This is the amount required to release him from his Athletic contract and to hold talks with Bayern.

The player is expected to be confirmed as a Bayern player within a matter of hours.

Athletic, who released a statement earlier today suggesting that Martinez was not permitted to attend Bayern’s medical tests yesterday, have previously been reported as being prepared to bring in FIFA should Martinez break his contract as is being suggested.

In giving Martinez the money to break the deal, not only are Bayern avoiding a substantial added fee in tax that Athletic were demanding them to pay, but Athletic reportedly believe that they are also going against Article 17’s regulation.
