Modric’s Madrid move confirmed

Both Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed Luka Modric's move to the Spanish champions.

Punto Pelota confirmed that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder will arrive in Spain at 11am local time on Monday accompanied by two relatives and will sign a contract with Real subject to a medical.

An announcement on Spurs’ official website confirmed the deal and said that the London club had signed a partnership agreement with Madrid.

“The club can announce that it has signed a partnership agreement with Real Madrid FC and reached agreement for the transfer of Luka Modric, subject to a medical, to the Spanish club,” it read.

“The partnership agreement will see the two clubs working together in respect of players, coaching, best practices and commercial relationships.”

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez said he looked forward to working with Spurs in the future.

“The strong relationship and affinity between our two clubs has resulted in the cementing of a longer-term partnership and the successful transfer of Luka Modric. We are delighted to welcome Luka and look forward to working closely with Tottenham in the coming years.”

Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy also commented.

“Luka has been a terrific player for us and, whilst we preferred not to part with him, we are pleased that it is to Real Madrid, a club with which we now look forward to sharing a long and productive partnership.”

A statement on Real Madrid's official website also confirmed agreement had been reached.

"Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur have reached agreement for the transfer of Luka Modric, who will be linked to the club for the next five seasons. The two clubs have also sealed a partnership agreement," it read.

Modric made 160 appearances for Tottenham, scoring 17 goals after joining from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2008.
