Molina: Bilbao win gave us confidence

Jorge Molina says Real Betis’ win over Athletic Bilbao on the opening day of the La Liga season has given his team renewed confidence.

The 30-year-old, who scored twice against the Basques in his side’s astonishing 5-3 victory at San Mames, believes his teammates will go into this weekend’s game against Rayo Vallecano with their tails well and truly up.

“More than my two goals I am happy with the way we began the season. It was at a notoriously hard place to go against difficult opponents who did well last year.

“But it was important for us to get the victory and that has given us added confidence,” he told a Press conference.

Even so, Molina did not hide behind the fact the Andalusians conceded three goals and says Los Beticos must improve upon that.

“We need to correct those errors. After going 3-0 up we shouldn’t have allowed them to draw level.

“Having said that, the positive we can take from the game is how we reacted and were able to score two more goals.”

Molina, however, feels Betis must be on their guard against Paco Jemez’s Rayo, who opened their La Liga account with a last-gasp victory over Granada.

“We have to take them very seriously as they beat us twice last season. We will have to be at 100 per cent to take the three points.

“If we concentrate on our own game then we will be closer to reaching our objectives,” he explained.
