Rummenigge: Athletic won’t cooperate

Bayern Munich's CEO Karl Heinz Rummenigge has shed some light on the saga that Javi Martinez's move from Athletic Bilbao is becoming.

“There have been several legal and tax problems,” the former European footballer of the year is quoted as saying in AS.

“We would very much like to complete the signing but Bilbao’s management continue to not collaborate in any shape or form.

“We have tried on several occasions to arrange a meeting with President Josu Urrutia, but have only ever got a negative response from him.”

The German giants are reportedly unwilling to meet the 23-year-old’s €40m buy-out clause because with tax factored in their final outlay would actually be much greater.
