Vilanova: Barca could return to 3-4-3

Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova says his team could return to using a 3-4-3 system during the season if the occasion demands it.

Vilanova appeared at a Press conference on Saturday morning before Sunday’s opening La Liga fixture of the new season against Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou, and was asked if he might change the style of play so successfully used by his predecessor Pep Guardiola.

“We will see about using 3-4-3 as the season progresses. Although it has not been utilised in pre-season we could employ during a game, but it’s not an obligation,” stated Vilanova, who referred to past declarations by Cesc Fabregas that it is a system that suits his game.

“Cesc is more comfortable with 3-4-3. He can move if somebody covers his position”

The Barca Coach revealed that he is wary of tomorrow’s opponents Real Sociedad, who he feels are a difficult team to play against.

“They did well against us last year and will make things difficult for us this time.

“Firstly, because it is the opener to the season and secondly because they played well in their last two games against us.

“They are good on the break and very difficult to break down.”

In addition, he also spoke of his debut as Coach in a La Liga game.

“Someone must take the risk and try to maintain the continuity in the way we play and also the titles we have won, although it will be difficult.

“However, I think people want to see the same attitude on and off the field, whether you win or lose.”
