Martinez could halt Llorente sale

Reports in Italy believe that should Athletic Bilbao sell Javi Martinez to Bayern Munich then they won’t sell Fernando Llorente to Juventus.

Both players have been linked with departures from San Mames this summer, with Bayern reportedly on the verge of completing a deal for Martinez, having triggered negotiations with a €40m bid to match his release clause.

The Gazzetta dello Sport understand, though, that should this move go through, then Llorente’s proposed sale to Juventus will not.

Athletic are in talks with the Bianconeri over signing the forward, who has told the Spanish that he wishes to leave them.

However, with just 12 months remaining on Llorente’s contract, Juve are not prepared to offer an amount to trigger his €35m release clause and subsequently, President Josu Urrutia can reject their bid.

This is said to be his preferred option, if Martinez departs for Germany, out of a reluctance for the club to lose two key players before the start of the season.
