Alves handed World Cup role

Barcelona full-back Dani Alves has been named as one of 11 ambassadors for the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

The Brazilian has been selected as a special envoy for his home state of Bahia, where three Confederation Cup games are due to be staged in 2013 as a foretaste for the following year’s World Cup Finals.

The state capital Salvador has been chosen to host six games in the finals – four in the group stage, one in the last 16 and a quarter-final tie – and, according to Mundo Deportivo, Alves will not receive any financial remuneration for his duties.

In fact, the 29-year-old will not even be awarded expenses but will be undertaking his duties as ‘an act of citizenship’ along with other 10 emissaries.

“Today has begun wonderfully with the news that I am one of the Salvador ambassadors for the 2014 World Cup!” posted Alves on his official Twitter account when he was informed of the news.
