La Liga broadcast deal reached

La Primera’s two broadcast television companies have reached an agreement to work together for the next three years, ending the ‘football war’.

Mediapro and Prisa TV, formerly known as Sogecable, have been in talks in recent weeks in a bid to resolve their differences before the season started.

Several Primera and Segunda Division clubs, unhappy at the amount Mediapro were paying them for television rights, broke their contracts in favour of signing improved deals with Prisa.

With Prisa taking a slight majority in clubs signed with them, it escalated the two companies’ battle with each other for control of who aired which games on which weekend.

However, according to Prisa, the two broadcasters have reached an agreement to work together for the next three seasons.

Every weekend will all 10 of La Primera’s games televised and split between the two companies’ channels, but the agreement sees that most games will still only be available through pay TV.
