Modric Madrid move edges closer

The Luka Modric saga could finally be at an end with Real Madrid's new £30m bid said to have satisfied Tottenham.

Real have been in pursuit of the Croat midfielder all summer but have met with staunch resistance from Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy and new boss Andre Villas Boas. Modric has been training with the North London club's reserves in the meantime but according to the BBC, an agreement has now been found.

The transfer will apparently involve an initial fee of £25m and a further £5m in add ons, but will not be rubber stamped until Spurs have lined up a replacement. Contract talks and a medical should take place within the next 48 hours.

Modric would be the first signing of a quiet summer for reigning La Liga champions Real. There have been suggestions that his arrival could precipitate the departure of Spanish international Xabi Alonso.
