Bayern green light Martinez deal

Bayern Munich’s supervisory board have approved the purchase of Javi Martinez from Athletic Bilbao, as confirmed by their club President.

“The [Bayern] board have given the green light for the signing of Martinez, but the deal is far from done,” Uli Hoeness stated this morning to reporters.

The Bavarian outfit's transfer policy is such that the board must approve all signings before they can be finalised.

German and Spanish media outlets have been rife with speculation of a potential switch for the 23-year-old defender, who was part of Spain’s European Championship-winning side this summer.

German publication Bild claim a stumbling block for the proposed move will be the Spaniard’s colossal €40m price tag. However according to reports, Martinez would be willing to lower his wages in order for a deal to be brokered before the end of the week.
