Mourinho: Madrid were unstoppable

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho called his team ‘unstoppable’ after the 5-1 win over Milan in New York’s Yankee Stadium.

Mourinho was delighted with his side’s World Club Challenge victory but more significantly was pleased with where it had been achieved in front of 49,000 spectators.

“A historic stadium, a historic opponent, a packed house, great support and a great atmosphere.

“I really think the way we played was the best way to promote the sport,” Mourinho told a Press conference.

“Playing like we did tonight we were unstoppable and that is the best way to create fans, who will respond positively to the sport of football.”

Mourinho also understood that the supporters wanted to see his star player Cristiano Ronaldo and despite a raft of other changes left the Portuguese international on the pitch for 80 minutes.

“I understood they were asking for Ronaldo. Cristiano was part of the show, part of what people wanted to see, but more importantly it was a good workout for him and I’m happy about that.”

Asked about the forthcoming Supercopa de Espana clashes with Barcelona, Mourinho believes it will have no bearing on the 2012-13 La Liga campaign.

“The Supercopa is of no significance to the season but we will try to win it and Barcelona will do the same,” he declared.
