Beckham: My great Madrid memories

Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham says he has some great memories of his time with Real Madrid.

The England international was speaking after seeing his team thrashed 5-1 by Los Blancos in a pre-season friendly played at Galaxy’s Home Depot Center headquarters on Thursday.

The 37-year-old spent almost four years at the Santiago Bernabeu between 2003 and 2007, after a high-profile €35m move from Manchester United, and confessed his time in Spain was one of the highlights of his career.

“Some of my best memories are of the time I spent with Madrid, where I made some great friends.

“To see them again, although they were rivals in a friendly, was amazing.” Beckham told a Press conference after the game

Despite making the cross for his team’s only goal, Beckham recognised Real’s superiority although he claimed the Major League Soccer outfit did well in the opening 20 minutes.

“I think we had several opportunities before and after they got the second goal but we had no luck in the final third and, as usually happens, Iker Casillas emerged as the figure to prevent us scoring.”

David Junior Lopes, scorer of Galaxy’s goal, admitted he was ´very happy` to have had the experience of playing against Jose Mourinho’s men.

“It was the goal of my life and I will remember it for the rest of my career,” he beamed.

“I will tell my sons about it. They will watch it. They will live it.

“However, I must credit Omar Gonzalez who headed it down for me in the box and allowed me to guide the ball home.”
