Real Madrid-Barca game brought forward

The second leg of the Supercopa de Espana between Real Madrid and Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu has been brought forward a day.

The reason is that the original date coincides with the UEFA Gala in Monaco, where the awards for Europe’s top players from the 2011-12 season will take place, and six Spanish players who recently won the European Championship in Poland and Ukraine have been nominated: Xabi Alonso, Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Cesc Fabregas, Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez.

This year the Supercopa is scheduled for between the first and third round of La Liga fixtures, with the first leg at the Camp Nou due to be played on August 23, with both games having a 10.30pm kick-off (local time).

The clash is a repeat of last year’s contest when Barcelona ran out 5-4 aggregate winners to secure their 10th Supercopa de Espana title.
