Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova has ruled out signing a striker this summer as he is counting on David Villa, reports Mundo Deportivo.
After spending six months on the sidelines with a broken leg, Villa goes into the new season with renewed hope after Vilanova made it clear in a recent conversation between the pair that the 30-year-old Spanish international was his preferred option up front.
In addition to Villa, the Barca Coach has Lionel Messi, Isaac Cuenca, Pedro, Alexis Sanchez, Cristian Tello and Ibrahim Afellay as attacking options, so will now concentrate his efforts alongside director of football Andoni Zubizarreta in signing a central midfielder, or else a utility man such as Athletic Bilbao’s Javi Martinez.
Paris Saint-Germain are already believed to have made overtures to Barcelona regarding Villa, but Vilanova has declared El Guaje non-transferable.
