Boca striker Araujo joins Barcelona

Barcelona have announced the loan signing of striker Sergio Araujo from Boca Juniors.

Araujo was presented on Tuesday evening alongside director of football Andoni Zubizarreta and Jordi Mestre, who is in charge of youth development with the Catalans, and has penned a two-year deal at the Camp Nou.

The 20-year-old will spend next term with the club’s B team, with Barca reserving the right to buy the player at the end of the agreement.

Nicknamed ´Chino`- or the Chinese – Araujo has represented Argentina at youth level and is a product of Boca’s youth academy, making his full debut in the last game of the Torneo Apertura in December 2009 against Banfield, and has since made 19 League appearances with five starts, scoring one goal.

The Buenos Aires-born youngster becomes Barcelona B’s fifth reinforcement of the summer following the signings of Joan Angel Roman from Manchester City, Xerez’s David Lomban and the Portuguese pair Edgar and Agostinho Ca from Sporting Lisbon.
