Villa targets Man United friendly

Barcelona striker David Villa has pencilled in the club’s friendly with Manchester United in Gothenburg on August 8 for his comeback.

El Guaje, who suffered a broken leg in the World Club Cup semi-final game against Al Sadd in Yokohama last December and has been battling his way back to full fitness ever since, had to pull out of Spain’s victorious Euro 2012 squad in the summer but can now finally see some light at the end of the tunnel.

According to AS, Barca’s medical staff have confirmed the fracture is completely healed and have been delighted with Villa’s progress in recent weeks, with boss Tito Vilanova believing the game with the Red Devils is a realistic target for the 30-year-old.

The idea is to ease Villa back into the fray so he will be ready for the opening game of the La Liga season against Real Sociedad on the weekend of August 18-19, as well as the double clash with Real Madrid for the Supercopa de Espana on August 22 and 29.
