Lopetegui wants U-21 clean sheet

Spain Under-21 boss Julen Lopetegui says he wants a clean sheet in Thursday’s European Championship play-off first leg against Denmark.

La Rojita are playing for a place in next year’s finals in Israel and Lopetegui knows it is going to be tough against a young Danish side he rates very highly.

“Denmark have some quality players and were a better side than Serbia in the group stages, despite finishing behind them. They also have three lads who have played for the full national side,” he told a Press conference on Wednesday.

“It is vitally important we keep a clean sheet but we have to go into the game with our own natural way of playing, where we can attack but also maintain our shape at the back.

“Obviously, the ideal thing would be to score and for them not to.”

Lopetegui said he does not consider this game a chance to get the poor showing at the London Olympics out of the system.

“I’ve no desire to look back and the important thing is to focus on this match. What happened is history and now is the time to look forward.”
